Interview Questions and Answers
What are your strengths?
My greatest strength is my ability to communicate with others. I find it easy to talk to new people and I enjoy talking in front of large crowds for things like presentations. Another strength I have is respectfulness. I I am accepting of all people and respect them regardless of anything. I have acquired this trait from knowing many people with disabilities.
What are your weaknesses?
One of my weaknesses is being overly sensitive. I often find myself getting upset when people criticize or embarrass me. In addition, I have a hard time with adaptability. When I am placed in a new setting or given a new task, I get nervous and it usually takes me a little while to get used to it.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I see myself attending Occupational Therapy school. I also see myself having a part-time job, perhaps working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Lastly, I can see myself living in an apartment/condo with another person or two.
Tell me about an accomplishment you are most proud of.
An accomplishment I am most proud of is earning my Gold Award in Girl Scouts. I spent about 80 hours working in a retirement facility to create a quilting program for the residents there so that they could feel a sense of community through a fun activity. I am proud of this accomplishment because the Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, and I put a lot of effort into doing my project.
What was your biggest failure?
My biggest failure was failing my Pre-calculus midterm. I struggled in the class to begin with, but I put in what I thought was a lot of effort into studying for the exam. After finding our my score, I realized that what I had done to study was clearly not enough. I was really disappointed in myself, but I took this experience and used it to improve my study habits for the Pre-calculus fiinal and throughout the rest of my high school career.
What movitvates you?
Other people boosting my confidence motivates me. I love being told that I'm going to do good on a test or I love hearing things from my dad during a cross country race like "you have people to pass". These sort of things motivate me because it leads me to believe that I truly can do whatever I am setting my heart to.
Who do you look up to/who is your mentor?
Someone I look up to is my dad. He is extremely disciplined: he can do work or things around the house without getting easily distracted and he is always early to everything he attends. He also is even better at talking to people than I am and I really admire that about him. I try to learn from what he does to improve my own communication skills.Lastly, he has a big heart and a lot of patience, which is something I need to work on.
What keeps you up at night?
I'm kept up at night when I overthink events in my life that have already happened. I tend to think about how those situations could have been different. I also stay up thinking about big decisions I have to make and trying to put myself in each position. These things stop me from sleeping because they make me anxious and fill my thoughts.
Tell me about a time you participated on a team, what was your role?
Throughout high school, I was a part of the cross country team. At the end of my junior year, I was selected to be a captain. Cross country definitely isn't the biggest "team" sport, but I would say my role on the team was to not only do my own work but also be like a second coach to the girls. I had to lead some practices (or sometimes just parts of practices), communicate well, cheer girls on at practice and during races, and sometimes make sure girls were truly getting their full workout in.
What kind of work do you enjoy the most?
The kind of work I enjoy the most is working with other people. I can't really see sitting at a desk daily and working an office job for the rest of my life. I love being social with people and being able to do so makes a job a lot less of a burden.
